Ok, I know it's a scam just from the description, but has anybody ever read this book?
By the description of the book ( follow the link ) everyone who trains dogs is apparently an idiot
Book quote " 93% of all "professional" trainers don't really know what they're doing".
The site even has " E-mail" consultations if you follow his links. Plus he has an entire section on training articles- God help a pet owner that follows some of this advice....

*sigh*...did the internet just pave the road for these people?

Well it is obviouse that his site resembles a infomercial. I havent read evrything on his site but I have skimmed over it and it doesnt apear to be whacked out. I would probably say that a huge percentage of trainers taking peoples money dont know much about what they are doing unless you bring them the perfect, no problem type dog to train and most cant even do that with any reliability.Once again I havent read everything on his site but I would say one thing to keep in mind is he is talking about pet training and not sport dog training. I consider these to totaly different aproaches to training a dog. Even Flinks will tell you that he trains pets completely different than sport dogs.
Stop making excuses for your dog and start training it! |

I agree with David. He is geared to pet training and his tactics echo a lot of advice given here on the Leerburg board.
It is not such a bad thing to try to educate the general public on dog training. He also recognizes the specific training that goes into sport dogs and PSD's. (As stated in his article about defending your self against a dog attack: "if it is a PSD or a dog trained in personal protection, you don't stand a chance, just stand still" I think he has a clue).
He is a businessman, with a product to offer, a discussion forum (read his philosophies stated to people before joining) that will help promote his products and a willingness to educate the general public. Is it that bad?

Ok, maybe his advice aimed at pet owners is simply watered down for them to understand, I can see that.
But you are telling me that his claims about his sales video's/books are legit? That there are "top dog training secrets" that are jealouly guarded by some type of secret dog trainers guld- do we have a secret handshake also? I am somewhat skeptical about this guys financial claims, sorry.
When I train a cliet I teach them everything I know for a particular circumstance- I think *every* trainer does that. Dog training is all about knowledge, common sense and repetion with consistencey.
This bozo make it's sound like dog training is magic. Good items and service don't need infomercials to sell- that's true on your TV and it's true on this guys website. These ads prey on the gullible- it's that simple.

Will, this guy is a good person and a good trainer.
If you don't like the infomercial turn the channel.
No need to bash the dude, he can train.

Jacob,
Although I am bashing the fellow, I am primarly bashing the item for sale and his method of selling it. As you seem to know him, could you comment on the video/book for sale? Do you think those items are worth it? Do you own them and have used those items yourself, and if so, did they match the hype that he has on the website?

While I have not watched the videos, I have read the book and yes, everything he has written - works. It is an excellent book. I got more results from his book than the obedience class I went to...my dog was better behaved than the instructors dog!! I know many people that have bought the videos and I have always heard good things about them too. While he may need a little help on marketing and PR - his approach to dog training is worth looking in to.

All I can tell you is what someone I know told me about the book (I haven't read it). It has some very good basic training for dogs, however it is not recomended for trainers, as there is really nothing new in the book. Works well for new dog owners, and problem dogs (minor problems like eating the couch). Aweful pricy though.

Will wrote: I am primarly bashing the item for sale
Jacob: I don't see how you can bash it if you have not reviewed it.
Will: and his method of selling it.
Jacob: I hate the george forman grill but the sell technique works. Compared to most other training video websites it's equal. If a person can't boast while "selling", whose gonna do it for him. Go to ten other websites for other trainers and other orgs and they will read the same way with just a little twist.
Will: As you seem to know him, could you comment on the video/book for sale?
Jacob: it's a good buy for it's intended audience. The general public.
Will: Do you think those items are worth it?
Jacob: Yes
Will: Do you own them and have used those items yourself, and if so, did they match the hype that he has on the website?
Jacob: Yes I have them and I have reviewed them just like I reviewed Ed's tapes.
The tapes have an audience, and a purpose, and they are of good value to both.
yeah, the production quality of the tapes could be better, but thats just me being a picky dog trainer. But then again most dog trainers tend to be too picky at unimportant things.
My point being, the guy can train a dog.
