Hi all,
I have a couple questions on female heat cycles. My female is 9 months old and just came into heat we think 2-3 days ago.Today she has not eaten nothing but has drunk water. Is this normal for her not eating? We have had many females come into heat but they have all ate there meals. Also a few days ago she has been walking around here whining in a low pitch whine. Is this normal when going through season?Just want a few ideas or should I contact my vet? Thanks for any tips on this. It's very appreciated.
Try taking her temperature to see if it is normal. If it is not, then take her to the Vet as this could be an infection. It really is not that uncommon for a bitch to miss a few meals and even whine a little. This is all very new to her. Do you plan to breed her? If so, please make sure all genetic testing is done before breeding at 18-24 months. I don't know about anyone else, but I don't breed a bitch with anything less than OFA good.

I have had a young bitch with pyo and she never ran a fever, my advice would be to NOT take advice over the internet and take the dog to the vet just to be safe. In my experience of breeding dogs for the last 15 years, females usually have an increased appetite before and during their season although missing meals may be normal for your dog.
A dog training discussion forum is not the place to diagnose medical conditions...if it concerns you and the dog is acting peculiarly I feel it's best to take her to the vet and hopefully it's nothing. Better safe than sorry!
I agree - you need to take this dog to the Vet - we don't solve medical problems on this board., It could lead to a dead dog. Spend a little money and go to your Vet. I am closing this thread.
