about a month ago a fried gave me this 6mo puppy - staff bull terrier (not an am-staff). I kept her and I'm thinking of breeding her. I have not seen one like that yet - solid blue, very thin coat, she only has white on the chest and around the nose. when she is alert her ears are standing up.I dont know much about this breed and ANY comments are apriciated.my other dogs are rots.
she has (what it seems to me) very high prey drive
my qustion is: are these dogs trainable for protection work and in general what is their pursonal protection potential??
it seems like in my town(LA) there is a market for protection trained dogs.she loves to tug, but if I dont pay attntion to her she gets very calm when around me and generaly qiet if there is nothing going on.
thanks for the feedback
Floyd
ps on few ocasions while walking her down the street, people say "oh she is so qute" or they ask me if she is ok w/people, like she might be a wild beast or somthing...
any info about this type of dog is very welcome.

never mind this question ....
like a said I have never owned this type of dog before,(I have 3 Rots, oldest is 5 in July, all male) but I came across a website that says these dogs are "dog aggressive" and very "people loving" (wahtever that means) If that's a fact, then I should forget about this dog doin' "men-work" right?!
My new idea is: to breed her maybe in a year from now
(she will be 1.5 yo then). In the mean time not to socilize her with dogs, to improve her dog aggressivness and maybe train her some bite-work.
In the park in my neigborhood there are bunch a dogs runnin off leash (spesially between 5 - 7 pm)-despite the signs everywhere - with all them owners chattin' withot having a clue where and what their dog is doin.
On few ocasions in the past, while walking down the street with one of my Rots(on leash) Ive had dogs runnin up to us, on one ocasion this dog came up and went on doing the T on my Rot, where it took an arm and a leg from my part, to prevent a dog fight and save the other dog's ass. The owner came few minutes later, after which I was accused for owning a Rottweiler - "an aggressive dog".This one will always attack any dog that chalenges him that way. I cannot afford dog fights around my Rots. Just walkin with one of my Rots in my neighborhood I'm vied as bad person from most dog owners around. And most dog owners around here can't tell friendly behavior from chalenge, I mean no clue what so ever.
So I will teach this qute little blue girl some bite-work. She is little, but big head and very strong jaw, with extremely high prey drive for dogs
you get the picture!
Vance

Vance...being you have NO CLUE about the breed and had to go look it up on the web, what makes you think you have ANY place in breeding them!!!???
They are great little dogs. The last thing they need is an uneducated breeder turning out pups.
Sorry to be so harsh, but it's the truth. A "breeder" is someone who understands the breed, genetics, faults, temperament history and then takes the responsibility of ensuring all the pups go to the RIGHT homes. The need for PP dogs in LA is beside the point.
Did you do any research on HD in the breed? Think you might actually wait until the dog was at LEAST 2 before you bred the heck out of her? Do us a favor, have her spayed! It won't make her "not work" but may spare a poor pup from being put down in a shelter.

At six months old you have already determined that this is a breeding quality bitch? Wow, I wish I could do that. First off as already stated, you know nothing about this breed. Do you want to know why certain dog breeds get a bad rap? Well this is why, backyard breeders that know nothing about dogs. Just because you have a pretty dog, does not not mean that dog should be bred. I have a handsome male GSD, beautiful dog, with horrible hips that I got from reputable breeder. What would happen if I bred him because he is nice looking? People breed dogs for two reasons. 1. to make money. 2. because they love the breed and want to insure that good dogs are being bred, not to make money. Your reasons for breeding this dog, to put it bluntly "are stupid." Get the dog spayed and enjoy your life with her.

I have no objactin to that Josh, I was going to wait till shes 2yo anyway. I also have plenty of time to do the nesessery research and learn as much as I can.
Have gut-feeling shes breeding quality.I never bred anything in fact I dont even have a friend whos bitch has had puppies.Like I said earlier, I have not seen one like that yet(solid blue w/white toxedo look) and there are a lot of "pit-bulls" in LA. I love this dog and dont feel uncomfortable to sell her puppies for proffit. In my opinion, there is nothing "stupid" about making money

Dear Mr. Floyd,
Every one on this board has spoken the truth. I know that is not what you wanted to hear. But it does take more knowledge to breed dogs than just putting two dogs together to get some pups. Most of these people on here have spent years working to enhance the GSD's.
I have loved and owned German Shepherds since 1967. Do I breed them ? NO! This is something that I coined a long time ago concerning dogs and my horses. " IF YOU CAN'T ENHANCE IT, DON'T CHANCE IT "
Leave the breeding up to the people that know what they are doing.
Sincerely,
Joyce M. Burrows
Blessings,
Joyce |

I am sorry. I can't believe someone actually thinks like this. My guess is this is another ploy to get attention. Ive met some ignorant people in my day(nothing wrong with ignorace it can be overcome) but this really seems like way out there in never never land. I doubt this is a true question.

Please do not breed this dog. You have no Idea what the hell you are talking about.
REAL SCARY.
You made it even worst when you started talking about profit.
I should close this thread although I have to fight the strong temptation to leave it open so others may tell this guy how stupid he sounds.
Screw it. Thread closed.
