I'm thinking about doing some protection work w/this 5yo Rot.
I have owned the dog for since he was 8wk, so we communicate very well.
Never done any protection work, but over the years I thought him chase on command. If I say "go get it" he 'll jump with his ears errect, scanning around for moving objects. His obediance seems good to me ( it has approved greatly since I started visiting Ed's webside and disc. board)
Generally, is it worth the time, training a 5yo to bite?
I don't think it's too late to work him, so long as his energy & willingness can keep up with yours(sounds like it). I'm sure he's a bundle of energy, by the way you describe him, it may be just what he needs.
My pup's sire was 6 yrs old before he had ever been started in Schutzhund, and just recently he obtained his Sch2. This was all done in less than 2 yrs. So I would give it a shot, you've got nothing to lose.
