When someone comes to your door - how do you expect your dogs to behave? My training mantra of "Begin with the end in mind" is a problem, because I'm having a tough time determining how I want them to behave in this situation, so I'm wondering how other folks handle it.
In my house when the door bell rings or someone comes to the door my GSD is allowed to bark at the door until I identify who is there. He is then sent to his "place" about 10 feet behind me but in plain view of the door. He downs there quietly. The door is then openned and the person is greeted and welcomed in. Bruno is then released to greet the person and generally leaves them alone and ignores them. Bruno is trained in personal protection and this arrangement always provides his assistance if needed in a heart beat but he isn't right in peoples facesif he does not need to be.
