I was walking my 2 terriers this morning, when we came across a young woman with 2 medium sized, very powerful looking pit type dogs.
These dogs strained and gasped on their choke chains (I live in australia, no prongs allowed here!! ) and were not paying any attention at all to the owner, who was clearly having trouble containing them. It occured to me that she and her dogs were an accident waiting to happen (I was hoping & praying that she could hang onto them & that no equipment failed, until we were well clear!).
Which leads me to ask, what in the hell could I do to protect my 2 terriers, had the dogs gotten free? (taking into account I live in the suburbs).
No one would normally plan to fail, but plenty of us fail to plan!
Hmmm...I'm just guessing, but I image that if a country won't allow the use of a prong collar, you do not have the right to carry a firearm for self defense either.
Are ya'll allowed to carry walking sticks? Big walking sticks made of, say, hickory? That would be a fairly effective self defense tool against man or beast.
No personal protection guns allowed here. Unfortunately, our sporting rifles have to be stored in a fireproof locked cabinet - same goes for our bows
(I would personally prefer to carry one over my shoulder).
I don't even know if we can get pepper spray over here.
How effective would a walking stick be on a pair of dogs looking for dinner ??
Maybe I could find a neat little baton, or pretend I was playing baseball by myself

I'll see if I can get a hold of cattle prod Laura, thanks. However, we're not even allowed to carry a freaking pen knife over here anymore!!

How about a cricket bat? Legal to carry on the street, you wouldn't look out of place, and you could probably knock a dog pretty far if you're a reasonable batter.
