I would like to know if you can destroy you're bonding experience with a pup or dog if he lives in a dog run versus running loose in the house when I'm home? How much time in a run is too much time? The dog run is 10 feet long and six feet wide and is in my attached garage. This question arises only because I need to keep the pup seperated from an older more aggressive adult who has been my house dog for quite sometime. Please I know what everyone thinks about raising two dogs at the same time. I accuired the pup when my brother was killed so there's no chance of getting rid of her.
Potty training is impossible in this situation so will it be a little easier with house potty training as the dog gets older and spends more time in the house? You know she thinks she can just go anywhere at anytime in the kennel.
I try and take her outside for run and play two times a day and three time if I can. Depending on the weather I can put the older dog outside and bring the pup in the house. But this hasn't happened too often because of the terrible hot weather.
I know many pups and dogs spend a lot of time in the kennels at different breeders. Don't they all grow up to be fine if the breeder has someone exersize them a couple of times a day?
If the pup is really only getting out to play twice a day and spends the rest of the time isolated in the garage, I wouldn't expect to have a very good bond with the pup. Nor would I expect the pup to have very good social skills. You didn't mention breed or age, but if she's young, she needs to be getting out and about, being exposed to everything and everyone or you run the risk of the pup becoming fearful of new things and strange people. Can you put a crate in a back bedroom and put the older dog in it for a few hours each evening and let the pup come in the house for a while? If it's not too hot outside for the puppy to be out in the kennel, why is it too hot for the old dog to be out there while the puppy gets her turn in the house?
No, pups that grow up like that don't end up fine.
Crates, that is your answer. Crate the older, or just put him in a bedroom or something for a few hours a night while puppy is out. Get that pupper out of the house as well. You need to take him places and let him experience other things.
If it's not too hot outside for the puppy to be out in the kennel, why is it too hot for the old dog to be out there while the puppy gets her turn in the house?
The puppy is in an indoor run not outdoors. I am going to make a change in what I need to do immediately.
Robert I appreciate you're help too. I will now do things as you and Lee have said. Hopefully it's not too late. One last thing, I do get the pup out of the house two to three times a day for exersize.
