I think there was a post similar to this a week or two ago, but oh well  . How do I get my dog a job? He has such high ball drive and isn't afraid of anything-we were wondering how do we go about getting him evaluated for Search and rescue or something similar and possible donating him for such a cause? He has a good noise, though he hasn't been trained in scent. Does anyone know how to go about it? Who you need to contact? I am in Wisconsin.

What type of dog is it? There are articles on Leerburg.com regarding how to test a puppy, etc. If the dog is phenominal you can donate him to me
He is a 1 1/2 yr old GSD, and like I said he isn't afraid of anything, and he will do ANYTHING for a ball- unbelievable-Focused drive. I don't know if he is phenominal but he can open door, cupboards and jump really really high. Uneven ground doesn't deter him, he will play in pond, lakes and streams for hours, walking across the slippery rocks- you literally have to drag him out. The only thing I think he would have a hard time with is sitting still on someones lap as they propelled down a building.

These are all things that will matter if you are trying to place the dog in a working home. It can be the best dog to ever walk, but if it has crap hips... you won't find too many people interested in it.
I looked for the other post you mentioned and I can't seem to find it. Sorry if you already mentioned these answers.
If I were in your shoes and had no contacts in the working world, I would contact your local GSD rescue group and see who they recommend you talk to. First thing that they will recommend is that you talk the breeder... which I also recommend.
Sounds like he has a strong prey drive. What about defense? Does he shows signs of being defensive? Is he tolerant of most things, or does he frighten easy? You say he isn't scared of anything.....elabrate please. Does he bark alot? Obedience wise....how is he there? Hips good? Pedigree wise.....how is he there? Where did you obtain him? Is there someone in your area that could look him over to get the full picure? I can think of a couple of agencies around here that might be interested in a S & R dog. Tell me as much as you can about the dog, his drives (prey, defense, pack, etc.). Be as descriptive as possible. Describe how he acts around strangers, children, other animals, etc.
Wow Deanna someone wake up on the wrong side of the bed or what? I said I didn't have him x-rayed yet chill the hell out! My vet won't do it till he reaches 2 years old. I was just giving his Mom's as an example-I know good hips can breed shitty hips!

Darn looks like a bad Monday for female owners.
Dee Dee good luck in your quest to find your GSD a working job.
Not very many GSD that are supposed to be Working Dogs ever do any real work. Most owners really think that their SchH K-9's are working dogs.
Hope that comment doesn't get everybody mad at me!! Sometimes we have to remember that we have Working K-9's, then we have Sport K-9's and yep Pet dogs.
You can and will get all in the same litter.

I wasn't posting it to be bitchy... and I am in a GOOD mood.. there are A LOT of people who do not know that bad hips can come from parents with GOOD hips. They are usually the ones who find that out too late.
You really don't want to see me in a bad mood...
