Couple years back a reporter was doing an interview with a police k9 I believe " been awhile" and he and the handler was crouched next to the dog the reporter lost balance and was petting the dog and tiring to regain balance he grabbed the dogs throat "we know what happened next " he did the end of the report in bandages since the dog bite his face. imlooking for the web site that has this video I have seen it many time and cant find it "tring to prove a point to a friend " and any one with any links or info would be great even a date?
Yea? So what's your point? Is it that PSD's shouldn't be petted by the public? If it is I think you're right, for what my opinion is worth. Ed made a good point about this on another thread that others shouldn't be petting your PSD/PPD dog. Others disagreed with him. But it's hard to argue with Ed when you see what happens when, as he put it, "shit happens".
Michael,
I believe there is a time when a PSD can be petted and time when not. My first PSD would not let anyone pet it while it was with me. There were times I wished my dog was petable.
My current PSD is very social, makes my life easier taking him with almost where I go, out of the car. When he is working --- no petting. When he is OFF duty, I allow people to pet him only after asking.
Trey, The clip you are referring to was aired on "When animals attack" series that sporadocally show up when a network needs fillers. Dont know where you would look to find it though......Howard
Why would anyone be surprised that a dog would bite a man's face when grabbed by the throat? It doens't sound like we are talking about a viscious dog here. Sounds to me like the dog was defending itself against a perceived attack.
I remember that clip. I've seen it on Fox's "When Animals Attack" and on a few other reality video shows.
It was of a TV reporter doing a piece on a new dog at the local PD. I think the location was in the southeastern US. The dog was on a chair or table. The dog appeared stressed. Her ears were down and back and her tail was curled under her body.
As the reporter was doing his standup, he stared into the dog's eyes and leaned towards the dog's face. He got within about a foot and then the dog nailed the reporter in the face. One fang was just above his right eye.
The dog's nerves may have been a bit questionable. However, the handler should have been paying more attention and halted or redirected the reporter.
The reporter? As a good friend of mine was prone to say, "You can't fix stupid. All you can hope to do is limit the damage."
my friend was petting my male dog " pet" and rubbed his neck then went under to his throat and he went on to growling and showed teeth but did nothing more just to get the point across and i went on to tell him about it and he just didnt believe me so countless books points and my explaining this to him he now belives me and i told him about this video . any ways this goes to show you not everyone understands the way dog are.
The more people that I meet, The more I like my dogs
