Did anyone see the Designer Dogs on the National Geographic channel. Up to $2500 for a Labradoodle. And the woman from PA said they still might not be able to keep it if it mader her allergic. Well, then don't get a dog! And the Flyball people mixing a Border Collie and Border Terrier. No one seems to care if the rejects from their breeding program can be placed. And, the wolf-dog hybrids and the Caucasian Mountain dogs. The man who had that dog could not control him and the dog was dragging him down the street chasing the car. I've never seen so many irresponsible breeders and pet owners. I'm afraid that the Caucasian Mountain is going to be the next Rottweiler or Pit Bull for drug dealers and people wanting something macho. Now, everyone has seen them and are going to be clamoring to get a highly aggressive, 180 pound weapon with teeth that the breeder claims doesn't have to be trained in protection. A lot of dogs will bite without training, but it's the hours of training that gives a person a reliable companion that can protect you and not attack anyone who walks by. Sorry about the rant but the show made me crazy and I'm concerned about the ramifications of their actions.
I was going to start a thread on the same thing LOL..I saw it last night and could NOT believe the guy with the Caucasian MT. Dog. What and IDIOT. I only saw some it but did see the guy being dragged down the road. The dog was on a flat collar and out weighed the guy by thirty pounds. I did see they advertise NO protection training required for this breed. Well uh what about the obedience for them? The guy said he tried all choke chains..well then try a PINCH collar not choker. Or let's see maybe get and E collar for that hairy beast. It was enough to make me scream last night. I wish Ed would have seen this and written an article on it.
Yes this show just fried me I mean with all the mixed breed pups in shelters does it make any sense to breed more mixes? Just goes to show if you put a big price on something and say it is "designer" some fool will buy it
A slight contrarian view, on the subject of Labradoodles. I see one from time to time at the dog park, and I'm impressed by the dog's potential. I wouldn't be surprised at all if it could do Schutzhund: lots of energy, good focus, tons of prey drive.
There is such a thing as hybrid vigor, and this dog has it in spades. And there's something to be said for bringing in new blood to a breed, if it's done for a good reason.
That said, I'm sure there are a lot of idiot breeders out there doing this sort of thing for the wrong reason.
Well I know that they are also used for guide and service dogs for people with allergies but in
Schutzhund I don't know about that
WEll let's see, I've trained Standard Poodles as EDD's and a ton of Labs as drug and EDD's so if the Labradoodle has what it takes I'd sure take thier cast offs. Opens another source for us trainers that take peoples castoffs, of which I'm sure there will be a few. I'll keep my eyes open on the rescue and shelter folks I deal with.

Any behavior that is reinforced is more likely to occur again.
HMMMM Well keep us posted if you do find a castoff I would like to know how they measure up. Here's a thought what about a Siberdoodle? You could have a sled dog that does not shed That might be a plus for your Hoover
