Could some please help me to translate sv hip ratings. I undersatnd "fast" means almost normal; however what would(a1) mean as opposed to a normal. Also how does the Sv of normal status translate into Ofa. Thank you
Ron and Nadia, thank you for your responses. Ron you mentioned FCI. So an (a1) rating is actually from a different organiztion. Though it is equivilant to a OFA excellent or good or a SV a, am I correct?
Originally posted by Ron Bryant: As you can se from graph, most SV fast normal will not get a OFA number. Sorry - I think this is not true...there are plenty of fast normals who come over here and get re-xayed---some go OFA Good, and some go OFA Fair...have even heard of NZ dogs going OFA Fair and Good...the 'a' stamps are done at one year - hips change...OFAs are done at 2 years.

Believe what you want. Ive seen 3 or 4 graphs One from UC davise and two on line from reputable org.
I wouldnt breed a fast normal. That is what Jimmy Moses is doing. Breeding to fast normal that wont pass OFA. Some fast normals will pass but some wont .
Just like a Fair ofa can breed but why should you do it when there are plenty of Good and Excel. to breed to.
Just my openion. But with facts to prove it.

There are several sites that explain this.
You can go to OFA on line and at the bottom of there discussion is another graf. The germans have developed the HD # which is more than likly beter than the normal rating. and this is why they (the sv and fci)will allow dogs with borderline Displashia to reproduce. Its what they produce that matters. But as I said why take the chance.
