Hi Peoples,
Here in Australia we have a problem with Schutzhund. The German Shepherd Dog Council under it's new president Vince Tantaro are the most anti-schutzhund people on the planet. They are even trying to get Schutzhund banned here in Australia. They do not support Schutzhund in any way.
The funny thing is that they are members of the WUSV and for many years they have lied to them saying that they could not do Schutzhund here in Australia because it was banned. The sad thing is that it is the GSDCA that wants it banned. This goes against the WUSV charter. We are calling for the GSDCA to be expelled from the WUSV for their damage to the sport of Schutzhund.
Please go to this website and have a look at what has been going on. http://www.pcpages.com/dogsport/home.htm
Can you forward this link onto as many people as possible because the sport of Schutzhund needs your support in Australia.
Thanks alot guy's.

P.S. I hope I haven't broken any forum rules for this.
Nope, dog politics discussions are fine.
We just try to limit other type of politics on the board, there are tons of discussion boards elsewhere that deal with that.
And I for one am glad to be educated regarding the climate of SchH in countries other than the U.S.
Feel free to post away!
Mark, nice post. It's an interesting situation here in Australia. Do you train with a schutzhund club? I have only ercently started training with with the eagle heights schutzhund club in melbourne. I wouldn't worry about trying to convince the GSDCA to start supporting and trialling schutzhund. They have no experience in it so it would take years for GSDCA affiliated people to reach an acceptable standard. Compare this with the many years of experience that many schutzhund participants have. Also as we all know the show-line dogs they breed and promote would be unsuitable for the sport in most cases anyway. It's true that the position taken (quite irrationally and almost hysterically in my view) by the GSDCA in relation to schutzhund is in conflict with the SV and WUSV. I think the important point here is not the try and convince the GSDCA to change - they are too small minded to do this. Better to focus on informing legislators that the GSDCA doesn't speak for all
gsd owners. The court case you mentioned is a good example. As long as schutzhund enthusiasts can continue to participate in our sport in a safe and controlled manner then I don't think we will have too many problems from state or federal legislation. GSDCA in itself is not the problem per se - the problem is if the GSDCA can convince goverment legislators that their view on schutzhund is the correct one.
i heard that this year national in Brisbane was a 'disaster'. Too much politics and not being treated fairly.....if u don't mind to share u can PM me. Oh yeah by the way i does replied your PM but no news from you.
The reason for this website is to bring attention to the GSDCA for what they are doing. There is no way on gods fair planet that we want the GSDCA to undertake Schutzhund training. We want these wolfs in sheeps clothing to be exposed for what they are. We are quite happy to let them show their dogs and do what they want. They however don't want us to enjoy our sport. They want to have it banned. This is only the start of the campain, things will get worse for them.
Thanks, Mark
I can say that seeing the kind of GSD's appearing thanks to the lack of any working tests in Australia is utterly sickening. These dogs are being bred to trot around in a circle, are often poorly socialised, and when the GSDCV suggested (heaven forbid) that maybe the parents should have a "working title" (ie obedience, which has nothing to do with steady nerves), then there was a lot of grumbling because many of the showies couldnt be bothered putting in the effort.
I fully support the sport of schutzhund in Australia, and am outraged at this new attempt to sabotage our sport by a few obnoxious individuals wishing to wield power over the people, who are simply trying to improve the image and temperament of this long-suffering breed. Schutzhund does NOT make dogs dangerous, on the contrary it teaches them when not to attack, as well as providing an outlet for their intelligence - which is sure as hell more than these idiot beaurocrats have.
I fully urge as many people as possible to get involved to save our sport - this is a free country and we must not be governed by extremist individuals wishing to think for us.
Angelica, sadly you got one thing wrong. There's nothing "new" about the GSDCA getting in the way of everyday folk who wish to participate in the sport of Schutzhund. It's probably been going on for a while - has the GSDCA ever supported schutzhund ..not that I am aware of. If they would stick to their shows and leave us alone there would be no problem but why do you suppose Australia doesn't have a WUSV team?? My unsterstanding is that it's because the GSDCA (as a WUSV affiliate)must approve such a team and has so far refused to. Leading to the ridiculous situation of the winner of the 2003 Schutzhund nationals in australia having a better chance of competing for another country. The person who won in 2003 will be moving overseas and will probably be able to compete for their adopted country.
Sorry, i got my wording wrong - im aware its definately nothing new in this country, unfortunately. I am under the impression that it was all set to be approved as a sport by the ANKC and the VCA in 1994 but when it came down to the final voting, all the ppl in non-working dog clubs (such as maltese, poodle, st bernard etc) voted against it...so hence they scrapped it for everyone...can any one confirm this?
