Very strange occurance. I was out in the woods & needed to pee. so i go behind a tree & pee. My dog comes up to me & looks at what im doing he sniffs & then acts strange like he is afraid of me &/or the pee, he appears to be about to start barking at me, he just has that look when he is concerned about something & is about to start to bark. he gets that look when he is concerned about me like for my safety. ie: one time there wa a secada on my chest & he had that look, started to bark (twice)& then just jumped up & bit it off my chest, scared the crap out of me. another time, same woods,we are hiking he is in front he comes running back to me & has that concerned look he starts to bark like crazy, i thought at me but it turned out there was some strange man 20 ft away walking my way. what the relationship might be is mabey he can tell something is wrong physically by smelling my urin?
Gerlert's master, returned to find his son gone & his crib bathed in blood. Seeing Gerlert's bloody mouth he stabbed and killed the dog. The noise woke the baby, hidden in the blankets. Under the bed,was a dead wolf. It's throat had been torn out. |

Maybe he could also look into your future by sniffing your tea leaves? <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" />

You men have it so easy.
Try peeing at 3 am (while camping) and having a wet doggy nose investigating mid stream.
Talk about jumping up in the middle.

Ok, I knew this was kind of a silly post but u all are not any kind of help, Tea leaves:-)
as far as marking teritory, i thought of that but why would he get concerned at my marking teritory? anyway, Im very curious why he did this? he does other thinges like this also, he will get frantic & try to bite off a scar i have on my chest? turned out it was reinfected & i hade to get it re opened & cleaned out! I find that strange also.
maybe he is psychic! I think im going to buy him 52 balls number them 1-52 & throw them on the floor, have him retrive 6 of them for the lotto jackpot numbers. if it does not pan out then at least i will have one happy dog with 52 balls.

Nick,
I do not believe everything I read, but I thought that I would post this link for you. I have no more info other than what is in the article. It happened to make our local news today and I remembered your post. Maybe you need to see the doctor. Cancer sniffing dogs

A more complete version of the story ... http://dsc.discovery.com/news/briefs/20040920/dogcancer.html
The part I found interesting is that they found a previously undetected kidney cancer in one of the people who supplied test urine samples. Kind of a 'good news / bad news' thing. "Mr. Smith, the experiment was a success! The dogs can detect cancer. Unfortunately, you are the proof."

I read this in todays paper. Cancer is just another form of human tissue. Being in SAR, I've trained with some very small amts of tissue and, given that cancer cells are "different" from "normal" cells, I have no doubt in my mind that dogs can do this.

Yes Bob, I believe it's possible also. I saw it on MSN, read the post on the K9SAR list with the medical links/testing scenarios/studies, etc. Very impressive documentation.
My father has been battling bladder cancer for a year now. When he was visitng me at my camping land on the lake last summer, Dillon, who always keeps his eye on my dad as they are very good buddies, to see if he needed any help carrying wood, that could possibly result in a game of fetch, you know - would do like a bark alert on him when he relieved himself in the woods, acted totally strange about it and frantic my dad said, I scolded and recalled him each time I heard it happen.
- my dad called me today when he heard about it on the news, and attributed Dillon's odd behavior to that - He's never been taught or rewarded to indicate on a *cancer* scent,I told my dad the probability is very high that Dillon just wanted him to throw a stick for him and started barking in frustration . . . but couldn't convince him of that!
I think dogs and horses (other animals too) have some very diffent and inate abilitites and senses that we are only beginning to discover scientifically. It would truly be a great benefit to society, if dogs could serve in this capacity too, owing to a high enough success rate- wouldn't it !!!???
