I have 2 terriers that I sometimes put into a large outdoor kennel & when I do, they don't poop or pee until I let them out!. (this has on occasion been overnight if we have gone away).
The kennel is made up of a solid brick, enclosed, covered area, out of the elements (where I put their crates, food & water), There is a 10ft run attached to the kennel with cement flooring & chain link fencing.
Problem is that they appear to hold off "going" until I let them out.
No one would normally plan to fail, but plenty of us fail to plan!
Do you have a terlet in the middle or your living room? only ppl poop under the same roof they eat. They sound well trained to me.
What surface do they normally use? I used to have to take a few bags of pine barks chips with Auster to the kennel because that is all she would go on. Maybe put some of the preferred surface in a small kid's plastic pool and change it every so often.

You can also try placing a pile of their feces that they deposited on the grass on to the bricks. Sometimes that works. It's how I teach my dogs where to go when I visit for extended times at my parents house.

I would consider yourself blessed and be thankful you don't have to clean out runs. Sound like very good dogs to me. Derek
