I need information. I have a 4 month old female gsd and i have been having a problen with peeing since we got her and now I am noticing that we cannot be firm with her ..or she pees. Tonite my husband was playing with her a she was peeing. I have had gsd all my life and I have NEVER had a dog with this problem. I really would appreciate any and all feedback. Will breeders take back a submissive pup? I paid good money for this dog and planned to show and breed her. I do not want a dog that cannot hold her urine. HELP!!
YOu said it's been since you got her. How old was she? Why do you have to "be firm" with a 4 mopnth old pup. It might be to much pressure on the pup, or it might be weak nerves. Hard to tell. The breeder may try and tell you this will go away, and it may, but I'd let them know just to set the scene if it continues. Be calm, don't yell, and DO NOT get upset when this happens. It will only make it worse. Did you see both parents? How was their temperment? Not that there aren't some out there, but most here aren't a big fan of showline dog's temperments.
Is your dog peeing out of excitement or fear? I have a 9 month old female pup who has just stopped peeing out of excitement. She did it from the day we got her until just recently. She couldn't help it, and would not stop and squat, it would just leak if she was really excited. Especially if her bladder was full anyway. I would give her some time to mature. Especially if there are no other indications of nerve problems.

Have you eliminated the possibility of it being a medical issue? I have a 6 month old puppy that until recently pee'd all the time if he got too excited and would also have random accidents in his kennel. I thought it was just the normal puppy peeing and would go away with maturity. My puppy is from excellent working lines and has a temperment that borders on dominant so the peeing didn't seem to jive with my reasoning. I had his urine checked and he had a UTI. Five days of antibiotics and peeing is a thing of the past.
