My goal is to get my Schutzhund titles, at least a Sch I. That is so challenging and I would like to have sort of a progression of steps towards getting that. I know that you have to get a BH (hope that is right) before any Sch titles, but what about any easier titles for a beginner to try, to get used to being in competition, etc. I thought about trying for a CD to start since that sounds easiest but don't know if it means anything to getting into Sch. Does anybody know how to get a CD (not what is required - I found that, what the exercises are) but is it just a one day competition, exercise (whatever they call it) trial or is it something you have to do more than that, like is it a more than one time thing or what ( i.e. how many days does it take to get a CD?) Are there any other titles that anyone would suggest as a place to start? Thanks. (What would be the order to get them ex. CD, BH, Sch I...??) Jennie
CD's, etc are AKC titles and aren't recognized by the SV in regards to titles. BH is first, then the IPO1, IPO2, IPO3. There are obedience titles, that don't count but do give good practice those are OB1,2,3 as well as tracking TR1,2,3
In akc the title of companion dog is won after three trials with a score of I believe 170 or better out of 200. then there is companion dog excellent and utility dog.
Jennie, A CD (companion dog) title can not be achieved at one AKC show that offers obedience on that particular day.It is best to find a 4 day event..that has different judges for each day if possible. That will cut your time and save expense...providing that you are intune with your dog. If you are pursuing obtaining a sch title on your dog...actually the CD title is meaningless...in that goal..just practice.Jennie, Any dog should be obedient...you can do that kind of practice at home.My recommendation at this point is to find the closest schutzhund club near you...see what is available for your goal with your pup.
I like to use this search engine I've found, apparently it isn't very widely used yet. . .but here is the link for it. What's funny is that I always find information for just about anything I have EVER wanted to know by using it.
I would never say the cd title is meaningless to anyone. If you have ever trialed in any dogsport you know that things can go wrong. I enjoy Mondio ring, but I definately have been doing this dog thing for a very long time. If you have never competed with a dog and you look at all the requirements for Sch 1-3 Its pretty overwhelming. It's not a cakewalk to get a cd title as a beginner, but on paper it looks like a better start.
