I have owned/co-owned 2 GSD's and have been consistently impressed and overjoyed at their companionship, brains, aesthitics etc etc. I must admit that I love the looks of most of the amstaffs I come across and I was wondering for those of you who may have owned both breeds, if you might compare and contrast them. I've always heard conflicting things about amstaffs (particularly re: brains and temperment) and am just looking for general impressions from anyone who might care to respond.
No amstaffs but there have always been pits in the family. We also have half a dozen or so pits at the schutzhund club. I'm not going to get into which is smarter (overdone here  ) They Both are fantastic dogs and learn very fast, but that ofcourse depends a lot on who's on the other end of the leash.
I had an Amstaff for 15 years. Super temperment with people and scary smart. Not as easily trained as my GSD mix - Ceili lives to please me, Gypsy wanted to see if she could convince me that a command really didn't need to be done...
Very dog aggressive, though she tolerated other types of animals very well, as long as they didn't attack her first. A muskrat learned the hard way that she didn't appreciate aggression against her person...
