After installing a 9 foot bay window in my home I found my rottie Jake standing in the window whenever I drove up to the house. Tried bitter apple, balloons, inverted mouse traps, and most everything I could think of. It was becoming a real issue with the Mrs. and several destroyed curtains. I purchased several lengths of "tackless carpet installation strips" and sanded the sharp points down to where they were blunt (can't hurt my Jake's feet). I taped the strips to the platform in the window. One day is all it took, no more dog in the window. I kinda liked the idea of him looking at people at the door but couldn't take the chance of him going through the window. I know some posters will think this is cruel but I really made sure the tacks were dull by pressing my hands on them first.

I failed to mention that the house was old and had single pane windows in it, but still... I don't think she would have broken a new double pane.
She looked like a patchwork quilt when I picked her up from the vet.
His name immediately became "I can't believe you f'n did that" for a week or so.
I have short nerves. You spook me, one of two things happen. I either jump 6 feet in the air, or I hit first and ask questions later. LOL.. Don't mess with people like that when they have dogs. It's not funny.
A cracked sliding glass door is the reason Thunder now has a Ecollar. He would hit it at a full launch to get our attention. He only did it twice with the collar. That's been a few weeks ago. Damn smart dog!
Do they hit the window because they can't see it or they forget it's there?
Deanna, nun of my biz, but are you still with said boyfriend? If my wife did that, we'd be in counseling
I am not sure why, I have also had a dog (Blitz) take out a screen sliding door. Roomate got tired of the dogs wrecking the screen, so she bought a new heavy duty one and installed it. Blitz(6-7 months old at the time) saw something and proceeded to barrel through it- the screen survived- the whole door came off and bent. The screen was intact though..
No Dennis, we have not been a couple for a long time. I still visit when I want lobsters, but I keep my dogs away from him LOL.
Thunder can see the door quite well. I think he just enjoyed scaring the crap out of us when we weren't prepared for it. It sure got our attention but I knew if I wasn't right there, it was no point in correcting him. Both times he hit the door with the collar on I was in another room but I was ready. The first day it only took two thumps and two yelps. I carried the transmitter for another week but he got smart fast. I'm a great believer in motivational training, but there comes a time!
I have to update my post about "the dog in the window". After successfully training my rottie to stay out of the bay window, last night I woke up at 1 AM to find Jake standing in the window, a late model Honda Civic speeding away from my house and a screwdriver on the front steps. I guess Jake will be allowed in the window from now on. He is also getting a steak tonight. I'll bet there is some excrement on the seats of that Honda.
