Whenever i grab my dogs haltie to take him for a walk he goes NUTS like he does flips and goes crazy and runs around the room like a mental case. I have to grab him by his COllar and when i do that he opens his mouth and falls to the floor staring at me at the corner of his eye. I REALLY dont get why he does all this but anyways how can i stop this? i have been recently waiting till he calms down and "SITS" so i can get it on but as soon as i go towards his mouth he will nip at it!! do you think i should practice putting on and taking off his haltie 3-4 times a day? along with his many other commands hes learning?
There are very few fans of halties in this forum. I've never used one and if you search this sight you'll realize why. I have a friend at work who tried to use a haltie on a wolf. BIG mistake. again, search this sight and you realize you can inflict serious injury. I forget what the actual physical effects are. I'm sure some pro's can explain it. If had to use something aggresive, it would be the prong collar. Ed explains it clearly in his basic obedience video.
You've been registered on this board since December and you're asking about a haltie?
The ONLY people that have said anything positive about halties have been Pestmart instructors; one recommended one for my bouvier pup a few weeks ago. Even though he was walking at a perfect heel, he barked at her when she rushed over to pet him (even after I told her he wasn't friendly, and she thought a haltie and a few OB classes might "calm him down". I can't believe people pay this woman to throw treats at their dogs while they run around a ring... But back to the point...
Don't know anything about your dog, but if he pulls too much on a flat collar, read Ed's articles on a prong.

hello well the haltie is something i use while taking the dog out on jogs i always found it really easy and stress free to walk my dog on it. I have recently purchased a prong though and im going to be learning how to use it in OB class.

I think you should practice foul shooting the Halti into your kitchen garbage can. Once you start working with your dog and the prong collar you will see that there is not going to be any added "stress" to your dog.... your walking sessions will most likely be less stressful to you!
Matthew, Instead of trashing the thing, he could use it for a thong I hate waste
