Okay, not to open a can of worms. But, everyone has that one "best" dog they've ever seen work, either on the street or on the field.
Taking into account temperment, courage, hardness, seriousness, trainability/handleability and just plain working ability -- THE WHOLE PACKAGE -- just curious which individual is the best dog YOU'VE seen work.
The toughest real working dog, the absolute best dog I've EVER seen, was a Czech dog named Dago who was owned by an old man named Antonín that I met in MÄ•lník, Czech Repubic. I didn't know the dog's pedigree, but I saw him worked HARD in several very ugly and realistic street encounters. He was outstanding. He was the hardest and the most powerful protection dog I've ever seen, period. He was unreal and I can't do justice to the dog with words. He was 8 years old and KICKING ASS. I wish I hadn't have been so dumb, I should have bought the dog and smuggled him home to be bred to death. LOL
I was too young and stupid to do anything but sit there and swear in English. . .which didn't go over very well with the nice people we were meeting.
I worked a mal that had been trained in pp and was named huckleberry. Of course he had a disaster of a handler but he was probably tied with a bouvier named Enemy that I really was impressed with. Both made me believe they would muckle me for real. Other dogs come close eveery once in a while, but I always end up comparing dogs to these two when it comes to "your gonna get it."
Rik Wolterbeeks Athos was by far the most intimidating dog I have ever worked. (Huge, deep hard bite, unrelenting) Rocco Stalrosenhof, NY police dog, just an amazing crushing bite that you cannot prepare for.
The one dog I always said I would walk down the streets of NY at midnight with was a dog named Racker. It was a Rott and he was a MONSTER. Marty Robinson owned him and not only was he crushing in his bites and totally fearless but he had the size to back it up. He truly was a back breaker for all helpers.
I worked Racker one time in Indiana. Karmen, I think you were there. What Karmen wrote is true . . . he was awesome. He literally "RACKED" me so hard I walked funny for days.
I'll throw in a few great ones . . .
Protection
Ben vom Kassler Kruez (Steve Miller - super in protection)
Lestat (Mal) Owned by Al in California (100 in protection in the Nationals 2 years in a row)
Obedience
Digger (Randy Rhodes - awesome picture of power/precision)
Danny (Debbie Zappia - Maybe too much drive for his own good)
Although I only saw him on video, a dog that always impressed me was Arek v. Stoffelblick. I also really liked Arek's grandson, Belschik v. Eicken-Bruche.
A dog that impressed me on and off the field, whether doing SchH or suit work and the dog I would want when walking alone down a dark alley, was a GSD named Smudge v. Brumbly.
The dog that I would most want at my side in a life-or-death fight ( which for me is the ultimate value of a dog )........

Ohhhh...Chris is gonna have a field day with this answer...
A Mal named Kirk, handled by a fella in New England. The dog had a ASR II title ( and folks, you just can't *believe* how hard that title is to get! ) That dog actually *crushed* multiple bones in a decoy's foot during a trial.
I heard the same thing over and over from several high level protection handlers, many with real world experience in dog attacks - and we all said "That dog would easily disable any attacker". An unprotected attacker would be lucky to survive a fight with that dog. And I'm not kidding at all here.
I'm scared of about three dogs on this entire planet ( I'm fairly accepting of being bitten <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" /> ) and let me tell you, I was *scared* of that dog.
