I've haven't seen one dog he's produced that I've been impressed with. I have a friend working one of his progeny now. The dog does good tracking, pretty good obedience, but the protection is not very good.
I saw another guy at a club trial wiht a Bastin pup who failed the BH. After the trial the dog was worked in protection and looked weak. The owner was shrugging his shoulders saying "I don't know what's wrong with him today".
Don't get me wrong, Bastin is one heck of a dog and has had an awesome career. Perhaps someone else can prove me wrong on some of his progeny. Bastin's old enough and has sired enough litters that there should be some up and coming dogs, but I've seen nothing that has impressed me yet. JMO.
i have a bastin grandson through an untitled bitch (although she seems to be a very serious and substantial dog with a lot of defense drive), but he is very young, i JUST got him, i will keep people updated, his sire is ygor ruytershof belgium WUSV participant. he seems to have great nerves and the prey/play drive is there from what i can tell (he's still very young and needs to be built up) but i am a beginner at schutzhund so we will see how we do, anyone else seen any good bastin progeny?
oh yeah my pup is linebred on 5-4 on fero, and he is looking to be a large dog like bastin...we will see, i got the best male from the litter, hope he doesnt have the weakness in protection problem.
Most of the dogs I've seen out of Bastin tend to be on the large side. I've even seen some pretty large females out of him that you would swear at first glance were males.
My Kraftwerk dog is 13 months old. His lines through his sire's side go to Xato von der bosen Nachbarshaft, Aik vom Haus Cindy & Resi von der bosen Nachbarshaft. The dams lines go to Gesha von Machiavelli, Fado von Karthago & Dixie vom Astenturm.
However, none of this means a hill of beans. Puppies are a crapshoot at best. It doesn't matter how good the lines are.
Anyway, I couldn't be happier with my dog. He has very strong drives in protection, spirited obedience, & his tracking is intense. Very high food drive, & ball drive.
I should mention that he did NOT start off this way. I worked with him a lot! Bernhard Flinks told me to get rid of him and buy another dog for Schutzhund when he first saw him as a puppy. Several months later, Bernhard worked him again and was shocked! He kept commenting through the seminar that my dog proved him wrong.
My only point in telling you this is that sometimes I think people give up too easily on their dogs. I admit I had some doubts about my dog after the first Flinks seminar, however I'm glad that I stuck it out with him! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />
does kraftwerkk9 have a bastin dog that is used for breeding or something? did i miss that, i looked on their site and i didnt find the pedigree for all of their dogs only some of them... i was curious about whether or not bastin was producing well also.
