I got a call from Jeff yesterday. His unit is leaving Iraq at the end of the month. On one hand this is very good news on the other hand thats still 3 weeks.
Jeff was happythat they finally got the defac (cafateria) rebuilt in the camp he is currently stationed at - a slum of Baghdad. He had been eating MRE's and now has good food - thanks to Haliburton (Vice President Cheny's old company) As far as I am concerned anyone who complains about Haliburton needs to pull theri head out of their ass - but thats just one fathers opinion based on how they feed his son.
Jeff said they had another suicide car bomb at their camp last week that killed 10 Iraqi police. His squad was 500 meters from it and the bomb blew windows out of the building they were standing next to.
What made me happy about this call was that Jeff had a chance to talk with Will Rambeau. Will was visiting our home this weekend. Jeff had a great deal of respect for Will and his experience as a medic for 23 years in the Special Forces.
So 2 weeks and counting. I am going to Ft Bragg and Pope ir Force base to be there when the plane lands.
Jeff's unit is coming home to retrain for their next deployment to Afganistan or Iraq. No one thats talking knows exactly where or when but the word is that it will be shortly after the first of the year.
Glad to hear that Jeff is headed home. Nice for him that he had a chance to speak with Will. I'm sure that Will, with all his experience, is a great wealth of knowledge & reasurance for him.
My thoughts & prayers are with you both.
Very happy your son is coming home, we will continue praying for him and all our troops. The children were just talking today about when their big brother came home and his yellow ribbon didn't come off the tree until he was in the front yard to cut it off!

Ed,
This is my first post on the forum and I want to say congratulations on the soon return of your son. I know you will cherish it and will take advatange and enjoy every minute you get to spend with Jeff. By the way, Jeff looks just like you. You tell Jeff that we appreciate everything he has done for his country. I know how hard it is to be away from family. It is easy to take loved ones for granted, when you see them and talk to them everyday. I am currently 2 months into a 1 year remote tour in Northern, South Korea. I miss my wife and 2 kids, my mom and dad, and all other family and friends that I have. I can really tell you are a proud father, and you should be. I am sure Jeff, myself, and all the other military members serving in deployed locations, really appreciate the support that we get from everyone back in the states. "Thank you!"
