ok, my 3 month old pup bites. a lot. I do plan to do protection work with him, so i understand that you are not supposed to associate negative things with biting (yelling at him, slapping his nose, etc.)
he bites. all the time. anytime you put your hands on or near his head/chest, he bites. he bites hard. he can break my skin through my bathrobe, which is REALLY thick terry cloth.
sometimes redirecting works, most of the time it doesnt. for a week or so, at the advice of the trainer we are working with, i was slapping his snout when he bit. that just got him going more.
also, he doesnt bite when we are not at home. if i take him out to hike or go to one of the fields around here, he is a perfect gentleman. is it because he is bored around here? he has about a dozen toys of all different sorts.
i dont want to break his will--lord knows he has a lot of it--but he can now bite REALLY hard. i have been trying to ignore him when he bites me and then redirect him to a toy and freak out with 'good boy' when he chew on the toy. he rarely redirects for more than 10 seconds before he comes back at me.
Joseph hit search and type puppy biting and follow the rest of the directions for the new search feature, this has been on here so many times you will get some good info on search.
Get a crate and crate him, when you let him out have two toys ready offer him the option if he goes for one keep the other ready in case he drops it and keep alternating the two articles, hopefully the distaction will keep him focused on his toy and not you body parts, do this while he is teething, if he is past the teething faze and just a high drive puppy, keeping working, on this until he learns
to bite his toys, especially if you plan to work him in the future, and if not you can at least teach him, not to use you as a pin cushoin <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />
