Hello, I am new to the board, but not the world of dogs. I stumble upon this article on the web and thought I would share it with all. Some of you may have read it, but I would like your opinions on this subject. It basically makes Shutzhund, and anything close to what the dogs instincts are naturally, sound cruel and unusual. I have a GSD protection trained dog, and he has been my best friend since we met.
wow, that is probably the dumbest thing i have ever read about dogs in a long time... haha if they only knew how uninformed they were, and i guess the funniest thing is that they will always think that way no matter what the situation is or who tries to open their eyes.
That article made me sick. I wish I hadn't read it. I go back to my original quote that I've used for many years.... "People are stupid".
Wow - what a load of crap! Now I am incredibly new to the dog world, but even I realize that all that was just a lot of mumbo jumbo.
All dogs have the potential to bite someone...Anyone who thinks otherwise is just plain ignorant. For crap's sake, if the dog has teeth, there is the potential for a bite!
My untrained mind would even venture to say that the average family dog is more likely to take a chunk out of the mail man than a trained protection dog, who's instincts have been tuned and trained rather than allowing the dog to make up it's own mind if you know what I mean.
Just goes to show you - ignorant people can set up a website and spew disinformation just as easily as smart people can put out factual information ( like Ed does here at Leerburg ).
I am convinced that a big barking dog could have prevented the need for most of our "Amber Alerts". A dog in the yard/house is just one layer of home protection. It is amazing that the writer does not put names/dates/newspaper articles to support his claims and we are suppose to accept it. What a Marooon
About two years ago, we had to put our akita/shep x to sleep. About six months after that, we were convinced people were entering our yard and taking minor things such as tools. Well, they got bolder and bolder and finally my parrot was stolen out of my yard one night. We made a police report and told the officer something like that had not happened in all the years we had lived here. We also mentioned we used to have a big dog. He said - time to get another big dog. Now we have another big dog, and I'm convinced no one is coming into my yard uninvited.
Twisted article. It makes me sick to think of the harsh and cruel regiman I put my dogs through to make them killers. What a joke. Our older PP dog is such an agressive dog that the neighorhood kids can maul her and all she does is roll over and want more. Yea, cant take her out in public either. She just demands petting from anyone who oohs and ahhs over her. She is a real danger to the public. But when someone tried to break into our home last year, I had to stop her from going through a window to get at the guy. I don't need to install a home security system. The police and my insurance company said I had something better. A very well trained GSD.
