Im so glad I found you and your web site,Its amazing how much people dont know about dogs (me included) even tho I have 2 rescued dogs here on the farm, you never know they are around so I thought hey, why not a puppy and a pure bred GSD,Im doing good most of the time, except never got your puppy video, cause kane was 5 months atthe time of my dicovery of you and i thoght i was passed the problems(he is crate, house trained, will go to his run when asked can sit, down stay come ) he is dfinitely in the learning stage,but anyway, my question, do I need to tether him to me at all times? I know outside is becoming a problem because any time there are different people around, he reverts back to barking and pinning the cats, he doent bother the older dog, but the younger spayed female he is right on her bugging and bighting, and she just takes it and i cant get any thing done with him, Ive tried putting her in the run, but her barking and carrying on are more distracting than having her of leash and sent away... I coonfess with her i dont think i did the pack structure thing correctly with her and im trying to fix my mistakes with her at the same time train Kane(the other old dog listens and will do anything i say ..... help!!!

Your post is a bit rambling!
It sounds like there is too much distraction for your puppy when you are outside. Distractions need to be added slowly, when you are sure the puppy knows what you are asking him to do. Can you take him to a different area to work with him, without your other dogs present?
The other thing that will help is to have a cotton long line on him when training outside. That way, you have much more control if he decides to chase the cat, etc. Leerburg sells a good quality one that is very reasonably priced...
