Well, we placed our first ad ever for a litter in a dog sporting magazine ( an upcoming Mal litter that is *worth* the advertising dollars spent ) . I have to say, DVG magazine made the process painless.
It's pretty easy to set up your own ad now and import photo's of the dogs involved into it - the magazine will do it for a fee if you're unable to. And the price? $95 for a single edition *full page* running of the ad. Sweet!
Modern scanners work *great*, I was truly impressed with the optical recognition software ( H&P PSC 1610 - cheap and it works great! )
Now admittedly, DVG magazine doesn't have the number of subscribers that SchH USA magazine does - but a Mal ad belongs in the all breed training organization's magazine, in my opinion.
Now for the point of this post.....Since Leerburg is planning on hosting dog related websites in the future, maybe a site for dog related ads ( with warnings that Leerburg is not responsible for the ad content, etc ) would be a good addition to the future Leerburg family of sites.
Just my opinion, of course!

Will, let me know how the DSG ad works for you. I have considerd advertising there myself, since the magazine is pretty nice and the ads are inexpensive. I have advertised (litters, stud dog) in the USA magazines several times over the last few years - with little to no responses. Too expensive for that, so I rarely advertise with them anymore. Plus, their deadline is often before the breeding has even taken place, then the next deadline is too late, puppies are sold already. So from my experience, I don't recommend advertising in USA, though I do like to support the magazine/organization - too much $$$$ for not enough results (for me anyway). Good luck with your super Mali litter!
ps I agree it would be SUPER to have more options for advertising litters/studs/dogs for sale on the internet.

I will let you know the final results there, Molly. I'm also of the opinion like you that the DVG advertising seems pretty cost effective.
I had wondered why I wasn't seeing your Ad in the SchH USA magazine, as I've seen more of your dogs around now that you have your breeding program running and you're spending a fair amount of your time on the podium.
Yeah, if this Mal litter wasn't super in our eyes, we wouldn't have gone through the expense and bother of all the advertising - but we hoping to get the pups into high level working homes and give the big boy Mal breeders a run for their money this time.
*sigh*.....between this litter and my GSD litter....I have no pants legs that aren't shredded anymore....*snicker*

I'm a computer geek and I'd be willing to write a web application that could be a sort of classified ads engine for working dogs.
I'm not sure how you'd be able to bring visitors to the site apart from having breeder support that directed traffic there.
The first question would be; how do you insure that you're actually getting people to post working litters? There are breeder directories etc.. out there that seem to pretty much take a litter post from anyone. I could probably post all of my old shoes that I no longer wish to keep in my closet as a 'SUPER LITTER!!! WITH AMAZING DRIVES!!'
Maybe working breeders vote on each litter? 'Rate my pedigree?'
I'm open to any ideas.. I can do the work..

yes, I used to advertise in USA - whelping-box ads were not too expensive, then they got rid of those, now they are back but stuck in some dark corner of the magazine where they are hard to find. Page-ads are very expensive, have tried those too but get 0 response from them. So, I have pretty well learned not to advertise in USA anymore! Wish I could afford to place ads that didn't get responses though, I do like to support USA but don't have the extra money to do it in that way.

Chris,
We need more computer geeks!
I know that Ed has many ideas cooking right now, I'd just like a dog classified site ( somewhere....anywhere! ) that was run by someone ethical, like Ed. It'd be a pleasant change....

I agree with Will, I would like to see one good site with classified ad's run by honest people selling adults, green dogs and litters (Please separate working from show). Maybe this could cut out the cost of the dreaded middle man.

It would be nice to have a site like that from a consumer perspective also. I spent a lot of time looking at different breeders (and I got a great puppy) but it would be nice to have all the information in one place.

Ok.. what breeds are allowed to post?
Aside from the obvious three:
GSDs, Malinois, Shit-tzus...
How do we know its really a working litter?

Search by zipcode, Search by city state, (country)?
How do we bring people to it?
