As I said earlier, I will more and more questions for my growing 3 1/2 month old gsd puppy. Today for the first time I gave him RAW CHICKEN NECK. I don't think he knows how to eat. He chewed on it for some time and then swallowed it.
The neck was not very big about 3-5 inches at most. I am really worried about it. At this point I guess I can’t do anything except to wait.
Do you think his stomach will digest it as it was almost whole neck?
Rashmi,
It is freaky when puppies do this! You can try holding onto one end of the chicken neck, the only problem is your fingers may wind up with some puncture wounds. I have had several puppies do this with no problems. He will finally get the hang of it!
It won't get stuck to this intestine or something. I mean that he will be able to digest it. Right??? He is sleeping now...and I am worried sick. Next time I will cut small pieces then he will never learn.
Think what a dog/wolf would do in the wild....they eat everything on a kill, scafing down food whole to keep it from getting stolen by others in the pack. A dog has an incredible digestive track.
Don't worry, everything will work out in the end..<img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />
I got the book " THE BARF DIET" & "ALL NATURAL NUTRIENTS FOR DOGS AND CATS" and decided that for the sake of my pupp's long term health I should switch AND THEN I got good views from you guys on RAW FOOD.
THANKS EVERY ONE. HE IS FINE. SOMETIMES I WORRY TOO MUCH. He is still eating WELLNESS CAN FOOD. With the last episode of bad stomach, I am just doing the switch slowly. Perhaps by this weekend he will be in ALL RAW...
When my pup was about 4 months old he found a big dead rat that was killed in floods while we were walking in the park at night. I tried to get it from him and actually cut my finger on the rats claws. He realized I was trying to get it and started chomping on it - you could hear the bones crunching. And then, he just swallowed the thing whole to keep me from getting it. I was pretty worried because the big long claws cut my finger and I was sure it would do some damage on the way down.
