Here's my situation. Adopted/rescued male neutered GSD. Aproximately 4-5 years old. Good health. Hips are clean. He's 100 lbs but 28" and long in the spine.
We live in a small 350 sq feet apartment but we have, on average, two sessions a day wherein we walk about a half mile, throw a ball for 30 minutes and walk back. The retrival is done on grass or dirt, the walks on cement.
My question is, is this 1hr of heavy duty ball retrival too much running? I know that young GSD's need to have their exercise levels monitored, but is this true of adults?
For what it's worth, the dog seems to live for the ball sessions, and they are valuable to me as he gets good and tired and therefore less bored and cranky in the apartment.
Brock,
As long as your dog seems comfortable after the long periods of play/ exercise, you're doing fine.
I think that the amount of exercise you provide him is the biggest factor in your ability to keep him in such a small apartment in apparent comfort.
Keep up the good work! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />
