I saw that last night, it was cool watching stuff like that on TV, too bad they don't broadcast Schutzhund events - at least, not that I am aware of? I guess its politically correct to broadcast Police K9's on TV but Schutzhund being a sport anyone can compete in may cause some complaints to the networks by people who don't understand the training methods. I've read plenty of websites written by people who are under the impression that drug dogs are trained by getting em hooked on drugs.
I watched the first hour of it. I thought it was a nice showcase of how hard these guys work with their dogs and how they (the cops & the dogs) take their jobs very seriously. We sure are lucky to have teams like that protecting us!
It was a good show. Nicely presented. It represented, well, all the hours of hard work that these teams have to put in to acheive the results we saw. I don't think that the K9 Teams get all the respect that they should from the general public. It was an eyeopener, I'm sure, for many of the people that have no idea about this type of training & what goes into it. Anyone doing Schutzhund trianing can appreciate this fact. It is a comfort to know that these well-trained K9 teams are out there watching over us.
I watched the whole thing and I liked it overall,
but...Am I the only one NOT impressed by the dog on the show? I give them credit for their job, training, and handlers (after all, they are K9's) but all the dogs seemed to lack intensity and some were a little heavy (the dogs) if you ask me. I guess I was expecting a bunch of Officers with high-strung malinois that were about to take down a spectator if needed. In fact, there wasn't even a malinois there!
Can anyone shed some light on this?
Top Paw Training: serving Canyon Lake & New Braunfels, San Antonio to Austin.
Alison, thats only for now, once the handlers get all trained up and everything, they plan to get real dogs. At this stage in their programs, Mals are just way to much dog for them
The LEO from DC had a Mal with a bobbed tail that failed the object search. I enjoyed the show but could of really done without the comic relief of the Mo whoever his name is. Did anybody else notice that Mo's little mutt had a prong collar on?
yeah, I did notice the prong collar. They never gave a clear enough view of all the dogs. I thought he was just a dark sable GSD, are you sure he was a Mal. Though he could have been he was about the best one there
PS: McCain's POW movie is coming on gotta go!!
