My dogs get 2 cups of Solid Gold kibble in the morning and then 2 more in the evening. Every couple/few days I'll add some cooked chicken. My vet said this is not a good idea as it is "mixing proteins". Does anyone here agree/disagree? Thanks.
Mixing Protiens? that's a new one for me. Maggie and Max get Mackeral or Salmon with the kibble. This evening I made them chicken fried rice. I have seen no ill effects and thier weight is good. I think they get bored with the same stuff everyday.
I`m not an expert when it comes to feeding raw but from what i understand you should never feed cooked meat. Exspecially at the same time of feeding kibble because they digest it differently.
True! Don't feed cooked meat- it's worthless to dogs and don't mix Raw with kibble, they digest differently. There are alot of articles about this, especially just recently. Try searching for some keywords or see: http://www.leerburg.com/diet.htm

Pat, are your dogs working or pets? or hard working pets? I have to take into account time and cost. IMHO anything you can do to suppliment the dry stale kibbles is a plus. One of the other pro's here said that 40lb sack of dry food equals 40lbs of crap in the back yard. once a week I feed Maggie and Max chicken fried rice which is chicken parts and organ meat, eggs, steamed rice and a pinch of salt. then I fry it up in a Wok with some peanut oil. They like it. I got the idea from reading about sled dog teams and what they are fed: Fish, Chicken, rice, eggs and some vitamin suppliments. I'm not a pro so take it for what it's worth.
Christine, can you direct me to a web sight that explains why cooked meat is detrimental to a dog's diet? I can understand why heavly salted and chemicaly treated food like you buy in the store or table scraps is bad. But I can't see why steamed or dried fish or boiled chicken is "Bad".
Here is a site with a bunch of info scattered around all over it but seems to be helpful for info on why raw is better and cooked is bad. The cooked info is down a ways and written by William Pollak D.V.M. http://www.shirleys-wellness-cafe.com/animals.htm
I looked forever but it's really hard to find an actually study.
Who was the scientist that did a study with cats where he fed cooked food to half and Raw food to the other and in three generations the ones that ate cooked were sterile and had horrible health problems, while the Raw fed cats were healthy and thriving?
