Has there been any success overturning BSL either in the US or worldwide?
Bermuda implemented a poorly thought out policy 18months ago that denys breeders permits or entry(read importation) permits for "Mastif type" breeds. This includes Rotties, Pits, Staffies, even Pugs at its inception(since removed from list). It was a knee jerk reaction to an individual known to have been involved in dog fighting trying to import a pair of Cane Corsos, supposedly to breed into his pits.
Since that time there has been an election, new minister responsible for the Dept. She is not interested in overuling ineffective Dog Wardens etc politics is a bitch.
Houston Texas was successful in keeping a city wide BSL (based on city population numbers) at bay:
TEXAS HOUSE BILL 1096 - ON SECOND READING Senator Ellis moved to suspend the regular order of business to take up for consideration HBi1096 at this time on its second reading:
HB 1096 relates to the regulation of dogs in certain municipalities; creating an offense.
The motion was lost by the following vote:
Yeas - 16, Nays - 11, Present-not voting - 1.
Not receiving two-thirds vote of Members present)
But the legislature is simply regrouping and it will find it's way to the forefront again.
Everytime there is a mauling of a child the outcry gets louder... *sigh*
This is a list of new and upcoming BSL in the US....
Hey Dennis!
I have one fool proof way of preventing BSL.
Run for office and get elected. More of us need to start getting into positions in elected government and educating the general populace about responsible dog ownership.
Get a position on a local Animal Control board ( I did, and it worked wonders for my time there ), or as a City or County Commissioner - all those positions are usually part time in smaller towns/ cities or rural local's.
Just my opinion, but it'll work better than any petition drive, believe me.

YES.
Start by joining a neighborhood association; start anywhere. Get yourself positioned to be a rational influence. Become familiar with city council members; attend their meetings and open discussions. Consider doing exactly what Will did.
Or get involved in public education at the local level. Join a dog group, and then organize a dog fair where fun things draw people in and then rational discussion of BSL is a strong presence (booths, handouts, posters, and great examples of dogs of the threatened breed all present). This works like nothing else does. Protests (IMHO) are too little and WAY too late.
