My 8 month old male GSD has become obsessed with the water hose. He chases the spray from the nozzle and barks at the water. It is really quite funny. He seems to find this to be more enjoyable than chasing the ball, which he still does, but I can tell he wants to get the hose out. Should I be concerned about this? Or just consider myself lucky that I can tire him out quickly.? Is it some form of OCD? I have been using it as an obedience training reward.

My Dobie bitch Raven is hilarious with the hose! She even gargles!
I love it, but Ron thinks it's a big pain in the butt when he's trying to hose down runs! I get in trouble for encouraging it!
My GSD does the same. He even know where the control is and goes infront of it and barks for us to open the water and then he is in clouds. He can have fun with it for hours if we let him. I was also thinking about vedio taping it. It must be GSD GENE SPECIFIC TRAIT.
Why would someone want to change and/or worried about such a cute habbit?

Not so, I have a Mal and he go nuts over it too, since he likes it so much, I turn it into an obedience session, the faster he sit, down and stand the faster he gets to chase the water again. heh heh
Both of my GSDs go nuts over the hose as well. Unfortunately, I learned this while trying to water my roses. (They still haven't fully recovered and I think I may have a few scars.)

My shepard pup does the same thing. She'll run out in the yard, go directly to the nozzle and stare as if to say turn it on and lets play. Now if she would only like the ball half as much .=(
My 9 month GSD pup is the exact same way. He goes crazy for the hose and will chase it in circles for 40 minutes straight (probably longer but that is the longest I have ever lasted). He also knows where the control is and will stare at it and then stare it my like "okay, I'm ready." It is an easy way to exercise him and wear him out. I guess I should be using this to my advantage as an obedience exercise as well.
This has also transferred to general water obsession. He loves rivers, lakes, the ocean, the bath, the shower, puddles. Early in the morning and late at night the sprinklers go on at the park and he loves them as well. They are extremely high powered and shoves his face right into the spout where it comes out the strongest. I am convinced it must sting a bit but he can't resist.
Only down side is that when we are out on walks if someone is watering their lawn he gets fired up and starts pulling. A few people have been freaked out by his interest in them, not realizing that he was after the water.
