I have a 9 week old female gsd that is a handfull. One of my major concerns is that while outside she tries to eat everything. It does not matter if it is rocks, leaves, grass, sticks or anything else. Is this normal and will it go away. As you can tell I am a rookie at raising a puppy. Thanks for the advice.
Matt,
Yes it is normal but what to do about it I'm not sure other than watching him close and taking it away from him. I had pups do this on occasion & they improve with age.
I have the same problem with my nine weeks old GSD. Is she a high drive pup? Apparently this is very common in high drive puppies and they will grow out of it. What I do is teach "hier" or "come". Say it, and when she runs to you mark with a "good" or "fine" and give her a treat. My pup drops anything when I say "heir" to get a treat. You can also teach "leave it".
Another thing I do is take him in areas that have few sticks/ rocks.
Hope this helps
Thanks for the advice. Yes she does have very high drive due to the fact that she comes from working lines. She does know "hier" and we will give that a try. Thanks again.
