Wanted to give a quick peek of a new dog we’re adding to our Unit. Can’t tell you too much about him other than he is a Yoschy Grandson and may actually have more ball drive than my Mal. (He will be a handful) Welcome aboard “Joe Kid”. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" />
I don’t know yet….we wont get the pedigree info until our new handler goes for basic training. We really aren’t concerned with the pedigree… either it’s a great dog or its not. When we obtained my Mal, finding out later on he was a Nitro Son / Nelton Grandson was an added plus. We concentrate first on the dogs potential for drug work and tracking… that’s our bread and butter here. Once that’s out of the way we will see if the dog will make it on the patrol side.
All I know about the breeding is that he’s a Yoschy grandson out of a US breeding. Most of the Yoschy line dogs I’ve seen have been very impressive. This one was raised as a working pup who at 8 months proved be a “little too much” for the owner and was sold to our vendor who has been prepping him since.
I’m really starting to like US bread dogs raised in working homes, they tend to be more environmentally stable than their European import counterparts. Our first two Czech imports were raised in dirt floor barns and never saw tile floors, open back or bottomed stairs until we got them at two years of age.…..they took a lot of work.
Will….. I did notice that “little Mal stripe” down the sides of this dog,….. could be a really good disguise!!
Thanks Matthew, for the update. I hope he works out. Would love to see more American bred candidates. The reason I asked, several months ago there was a Yoschy grandson and granddaughter for sell in Florida. The breeder had decided to keep a female and male back to train but for one reason or another had them for sale. I saw video of both dogs and they were both incredible.
