I understand its normal for german shepherd puppies to do this, but how do i train my puppies to stop getting in my way when i walk? I dont wanna have to step on their toes all the time, or trip over them especially when i'm carrying stuff!

Train them to "heel" or "walk nice" - I like to use food for this exercise, dog learns that if he takes 2 steps next to me, he gets a bite of hotdog, keep increasing the number of steps, it doesn't have to be perfect, depending on what you are training your dog for, but increase/decrease steps required for hotdog at random, first 4 steps, then 10 steps, then 6, keep changing it so it's not a pattern.
My dog was a perfect heeler when he was 4 months old, he was adapting to his new home so stuck to me like glue, then he gained more confidence n got horrible at it, he just didn't understand the concept - at 1 year of age I bought an e-collar, it took 5 minutes on low level stim to make him realize that when I tell him to heel, walking next to me is the best place to be, now anytime he starts to walk ahead of me (getting rarer and rarer) I just say "no, heel" n he'll wait for me to catch up n walk nice again.

Good advice Mike. You should teach puppies to heel motivationally, with food or something. I tripped over mine a few times before i learned that I needed to teach him to heel.

Ya'll need to be glad that you don't have a Corgi - they feel it's their duty to herd humans and woe to you if you attempt to break away from the herd.....

Ack! I hate to hear that happening ( I hate seeing it even more! )
I'm not much of a small dog person, but I'll have to say that I recommend Corgi's as a breed with a lot of heart. Next to Buttercup, my Corgi is the dog that makes me laugh everyday.
And to see them in agility is just a riot!

Will - A friend of mine has a Corgi-Golden mix....talk about a riot! Has the head, tail and leg feathers of a Golden, but the short, stumpy legs of a Corgi. You can't help but laugh everytime you see him!
I call him "Lowrider"....looks like one of those lowered 4-banger imports the kids drive these days.
Proud Mom of Abbey (aka "Moo") - my true soul mate...I miss you terribly and will see you at the bridge... |

There was a dog at Wayne's this morning that looked like a shepherd/corgi mix. He had the coloring and tail feathering of a German Shepherd, but was short like a corgi. Poor thing was very sensitive to the remote collar as well.
