I got a 8 month old GSD Demale puupy from Working Blood Lines.
She is prepring for Schutzhund work. she is working 2-3 times a day. Morning Tracking and after noon Bite work and some Obedience (not really looking for good Obedience at time age). she is healthy, not FAT and eating Pro-Formance Sheep & Rice Larg Breed. it's a great food, we use this company with all our dogs.
I also got a ENERGY food for my adult working dogs, is good to mix some of the ENERGY food (not alot) with her food?
I don't know why, but i feel like she need more ENERGY. we are not push her to the edge, but she is more activit from nurmal dogs. she live in a 7x3 kennel, having between two hours of free time in the garden and also 2-3 session of Bite work and Tracking and Obedience like i say Be for.
Gidi Just my thought but if your dog is 8 months old, she is still very young. Your enthusiam for wanting to train her is awesome, but I would not work her that much. Too much work will effect her performance and what your goals are. At this age tracking her is fine. I would find very easy places to track and start off slow. Get her commited to tracks before doing corners or other things. Getting her worked on a sack or tug is all I would do for a while in bite work. If she is using a soft sleeve and is all ready on it that is fine, but she is to young to be wroked hard. SHe needs to learn how to win on the first bit with a full grip. If your futzing with her traying to get her to pull and your driving her your going to get mouthy grips. Let this happen for a while. I would not do any obedience with her. I believe if your teaching bite work and obedience at the same time, your presence and order with her in obedience will effect her bite work. Obedience can be put in latter after her bite work is in Get her drives up and let her mature. Take it slow. Sounds like your putting to much on her too fast.
Hey Chet,
she is not my first dog that we make for SCHUTZHUND like it.
she is tracking from age 3 month and have a great grip from age 3 month also. she is tracking in the morning 5 times in a week and also Bite work every day, but alot of it is frustration for the Sleeve, she work with puppy sleeve, and also 5 times a week.
When her free time in the garden (two hours), she is just lie down in the shade. obedience work is only two times in a week, and it's not really obedience.
I was alsking if it's good to add her ENERGY food to her puppy food? ... the puppy food in the store are for house puppys, she is working more then a nurmal puppy.
