I'm getting frusterated here I need to find something that works and will last. I bought a Kong toy and it came apart and sunk after less than an hour of play. I need to find something that is durable, bright colored and floats well enough to handle waves on lake Michigan.
I found a great water toy at Pet Supplies plus last weekend. I lost it in the river, but for the time we had it, it was great. It was about a foot long, and made out of Firehose material, only cost about $7. Didn't get waterlogged, floated over everything!
They that can give up essential liberty to obtain temporary safety deserve neither.
These are what we sell and use in our pool with our own dogs. http://leerburg.com/889.htm - they have a valve to add air or let air out. We really like them
My dogs like to SQUASH the bumpers while they carry them. They don't last long.
Yeah, mine too. I bought my bumpers at gundogsupply.com, the toughest and largest ones they sell. These have lasted the longest. You can't get the cheap kind, they'll be cracked in about a second. I do see him trying to crush the tough ones while retrieving... they're certainly not going to be a long lived toy... but they've held up nicely so far!

My dogs absolute #1 favorite toy is the flying squirrel, it floats, i dont know how well, but it floats... and its bright colors. It's the best thing I have ever bought for my dog.
A good, durable rubber boat fender. (Not the styrofoam kind). Will float even after being punctured. I like the kind that the rope threads through the center for throwing purposes.
Good visibility and lets your dog get a full mouth grip in the water as well. Fun for tug games too!
Example: Boat Fender
This was one of those 'accidental' toys, but hey, it works! (and I am forever looking for water toys).
The only drawback is when out on the boat, the fenders are fair game!
Ed,
Thanks for the link, I looked at you products and missed that. Your sugestion, in the link, to train a force retrive to stop the chomping is a great idea. I had not thought about training a forced retrive, my dog loves to retrive and since I'm working on SAR training with him I've just kept retriving as a play reward for him.
