Will,
In the majority of Amish communities, they do not drive, but will pay for a taxi. They can hire an "outsider" to do something they are not "allowed" to do.
An Amish craftsman cannot open a huge furniture store and advertise like crazy, but he can sell his products to someone else who has the big store and exploits the image for sales.
If you read carefully, it is a commercial breeder that contracts to Amish breeders, and exploits the "pristine" image.
In this instance, I think it should come down on the the head of the coordinator of this effort, rather than on people who are trying to make an honest living with a different point of view.
Anne, I lived in Cleveland, Ohio for years and we had a large Amish population just to the east of us, so I know about their culture and I was just joking about the electric/ internet thing.
And I knew that it was a commerical breeder/ venture from reading the site - but the sales set up is certainly a scam. Dumb people will still fall for it though...
Ok. Cool beans! There are a couple Amish and Menonite communities in west-central WI, but when the topic comes up, most people think they're crazy or stupid.
Believe me, if I had a choice in the matter, the Amish would be high on my list of pople to have as neighbors.
Having to slow down and drive around their buggy's was a bit time consuming though... ( those of you that have encountered the Amish will know just what I mean <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" /> )
The Amish depend on their animals, and their animals, (and you), can depend upon them.
I might of bit but they mostly list TOY breeds. If they listed a bunch of BCs or other working dogs I might of looked at them. sure doesn't pass the smell test.
The facts that there are numerous spelling errors and that they refuse to allow anyone to see pups before purchase/pick them up/even tell people where they are strikes me as fishy. I don't know how many legit places are like that, but it definitely puts me on edge. So sad that people still fall for this.
