I am purchasing the video for knowledge and future references. I have a pit that one day shows what I would could lots of prey drive for tug and ball then the very next day not seem to care so much kind of a back and forth. I did not use drive for him growing up other than treats. Is it still possible to develop the drive. I would like to use it because he works quicker when he is in it. I also noticed from reading forum that the video is for a level 5. Does it matter if it is intermittant at this stage. thanks in advance for response. Or if previous subject is somewhere on here please refer me I haven't found it yet.
You could probably work with it(the drive) But when a dog has it you don't really have to ask this question. When you have to ask this question, it will be more difficult. Been there before!!!! I would limit his outside time and see if the every other day pattern stays the same. then just train every other day.
would it be wise if I go to train him bounce the ball and see no drive to switch to the praise treat method then if he seems interested in the ball go ahead and use it for that session
YOu need to find what is valuable to your dog. All the drive training with a ball is great IF that's what trips your dogs trigger. Some work better for food, toy, some do great for a pat on the head. Find your dogs currency.
the only thing I can think of would be the time. Today for instance was at lunch and over 80 degrees. But last night was later in the evening and cooler. He did the same though with a tug. Got it out went crazy worked him then lost interest so I went back to treats. He always likes treats it is just when he does cooperate with prey he works and learns faster.
Though he was not bred for drive. I understand that it is genetic but being that I never trained him that way I just want to at least try to bring it up to his genetic potential.
I think yesterday went a few minutes past but we ended good. Today I ended it short because he showed no drive. walked over punced then dropped the ball so I got him to do something rewarded and ended session on a success. Maybe tomorrow will be better
