If you are interested in answering an Ad about a kennel in Maine, either in Schutzhund USA or Dogworld, e-mail me privately and I can share my personal experience.
Robert, I had a pretty bad experience with a kennel in Maine and just wanted to post this, so if anyone plans on buying a pup/adult dog from a kennel in Maine, they can e-mail me and I can simply share my personal experience...not rumor or inuendo; just a bad experience that might save someone some money/difficulties....or they can simply get a pup from leerburg and skip this post entirely. I wish I had. I tried to save some money and buy locally. I regret not getting another dog from Leerburg, especially after having good experiences with them since 1991 in both their kennel and video business.
I just prefer that a person send a private message to me, via the board or e-mail.
update: someone on this newsboard posted a web site where you can look up rip offs, and the website is quite helpful. It is: http://www.ripoffreport.com IT is a helpful website. I just decided, by chance, to check it myself regarding my own experience and found the breeder...surprise suprise....
Anyone who is considering a dog from Kevin or Patty should contact the local Breed Warden. Actually it is good to contact her about anyone you may be considering a dog/pup from. Some kennels websites are very misleading as to how the dogs are housed and treated. That is all I will say about them.
I bought a pup from lebenshunger kennel: owners Kevin and Patty seven years ago. Kevin seemed great as I was nervous about buying a puppy I had never seen. Well I got my pup just fine although he seemed small for his age. Kevein knew I wanted to title the pup and also to hopefully breed him. At age one he started walking with a little wobble. I had him x-rayed and his hips were the worst the vet had ever seen. Six months later he developed epilepsy. I got a replacement puppy and was shocked by her. A female this time, NOT from the same parents. She was huge with a large white spot on her chest and three white paws. I called Kevin up and asked him why he would send a pup he knew I wanted to use as a working dog and to breed that had so much white and NO prey drive. The day I got her I knew she had no prey drive, she still won't even chase a ball. He never returned my calls or emails. She later turned out to have one bad hip, but I never would have bred her because of the white gene and her lack of drive. It's been 7 years now and I always caution people to visit the kennel and pick out the pup yourself. Most airlines will let you take a puppy on board with you. At that time I did an internet search on the owners and found nothing to alarm me. I often wonder if my dogs really did come from the excellent stock the papers say they did. I do know that the sire to my male was for sale even before I bought my pup. Was it because he was producing poor pups? Kevin simply told me he had too many dogs at the time. He only had two studs there. I don't know if I would call this a bad kennel, but I sure didn't have any luck with them.
I purchased two dogs from Kevin and Patty, born the same day, from two different litters. One died at 11 months, after an autopsy, was replaced by a skittish 60 lb dog. The other ones hips were so bad, I had to stop all training by age three. He died at age five. Contact me privately if you need more info.
I know of someone now that has a deposit on a pup from a kennel in Maine. I don't like online bashing, but I will check it out!
My new pup is actually from Maine, same breeder as my 2 previous GSDs, that were wonderful dogs with no health/temperment issues. I went back because of prior good experiences, but I will say that I got grief, lots of it, because I did not have one imported. Your Thread title made me go !
