I was just at the store where I buy all of my dog food/supplies and the store owner told me that the lady who owns/runs the dog food Co. Solid Gold has been arrested 13 times for not having the correct ingredients in the food that it says on the bag. She has even gone as far as refusing to carry Solid Gold food because of it. Has anyone else heard anything about this?

So far this is the only information I found about an old arrest Raid: Solid Gold Pet Foods - Sep., 1989
Address: 1483 N. Cuyamaca, El Cajon, CA 92020
Phone: (619) 465-9507 (Sissy Harrington McGill, Owner)
Reason: FDA had been harassing McGill over labels on her holistic pet food products. In March 1990, an FDA agent seized products from her store without a search warrant and shut down her store. On July 12, 1990, after being indicted, she chose a jury trial. Upon appearing for her trial, she was clapped into leg irons, put into a Maximum Security Federal Prison for 179 days, and fined $10,000. While incarcerated she suffered a near fatal stroke.
Outcome: McGill sued the Department of Justice and won a victory on Feb. 20, 1992. She expects to file a $25,000,000 lawsuit against the FDA.
I'll dig a little more later

Yes, I heard/read about this, about 14-15 (?) years ago, I think. Long enough ago that I read it in the newspaper as opposed to on the internet, anyway!
I think it was one arrest, on I don't-know-how-many counts of mislabeling. I sure don't remember it the way the pet store owner does. I'd be interested in hearing from you, Dennis, if you discover that it was more serious than my recollection, which is more along the lines of what you and Anne came up with.
I'm not saying that "mislabeling" is OK; I'm just saying that I do not think it was a matter of defrauding the consumer. I'll look into it too when I get a chance.

I did some digging and she did an interview with a what I call "back of a matchbook cover" college. She claims to have Master's in nutrition from Columbia. The web sight is "sticky" which means no matter how hard you try you can't back out from it without hitting Ctrl-Alt-Del. It's a concoction of ingrediats that may or may not be beneficial. She quotes no double blind studies or any hard research. I don't think A Columbia Grad would do that. Solid gold doesn't pass the smell test for me.

QUOTE from DENNIS: Solid gold doesn't pass the smell test for me. END
Hey, Dennis.........good thinking to go right to their own site and check it out! Duh...... .......... I kept tracking that original arrest and the civil rights issues that sprang up around it with regard to some (alleged) "strong-arm" FDA tactics. Guess I'll do what you did and actually look at the product!

I've heard that, too. I've also heard that she's a bit eccentric (sp?). That's too bad. We use her food (Holistique Blendz and the Hundchen Flocken) with great results.

I think this post is an excellent argument for RAW. From what I read and heard about raw, you know exactly what the lil' pupper is getting. me personaly, I use Nutro, not that I think that its any better than any other premium dry kibble but I'm sure its better than "Old Roy"

Old Roy?! Anything is better than that. I actually have the ingredient list cut out from a bag of Old Roy and have it posted by our Solid Gold food display at our shop. This way peopel can see the difference for themselves.

< One bird dog owner to another bird dog owner in Walmart discussing the ingredients listed on a bag of Ol' Roy >
"Well, hell........looks like they took the sawdust out of Ol' Roy! When did that happen?"
