I'm looking for some people who have any knowledge of "freon" being used instead of "starting fluid" in the production of methamphetamine. Supposedly it makes it odorless (???). A handler on one of these discussion lists had mentioned it in Washington State it was being found in the prisons.
We are finding punched freon cans now in our dumpsites instead of starting fluid. I have checked with our state narcotics & lab task forces -- they haven't heard of it.
Mark,
Im not a chemist but, Is it possible to have freon in a liquid state without being compressed? What you might be finding is the remnants of what the new breed of Huffer is using to get high. Nowadays freon is inhaled instead of paint by the hardcore. We are currently having a problem with junkies inhaling freon from peoples outside A/C units until they are empty.
Howard - I don't doubt they maybe huffing the freon also, but these cans are being punched towards the bottom, just as the starting fluid. I have been told by a A/C tech YES it you can get liquid from a freon can.
I had heard about this so-called odorless meth - somewhere on one of these discussion forums, not sure which one - a handler from Washington St had been training with a handler from one of the their local prisons who has been seeing this type of meth inside the prison.
Patricia ------ thank-you I'll check it when I get to work.
Mark,
I stand corrected. We dont have a big meth problem here yet so Im a little out of touch. Seems that there would be another chemical involved in the process that would have odor though. I could be wrong again
Freon is a popular items here in Oregon as they use it for making meth and its called "30 minute meth" (at least here in oregon)... My Mal hits on it but when tests were run with a "NIK" it gave a bad reading...
OOPs also forgot to mention... It had to be sent to the lab to get the final results.... Another items which he hits on is "Adderall(sp?) As they crush it up and snort it and "Adderall contains Amphedamine
Patricia, No, Im in central Florida...Where you'd think it was the meth capital. I didnt say we didnt have a meth problem...only that it wasnt big. The labs started showing up in our city about 3 years ago but they are sporadic. Its still not as bad as crack.
Sad to say this but, here in the beautiful Missouri Ozarks, it is known as the Meth Capital Of The United States. They make it in the back of trucks, and keep moving all the time, or some of the farms are so rural that they can make it for a long time before any one notices. This stuff is really bad, much more addicting than H and it is cheap to make.
It is so sad ,as many of the teen agers right here in my little town, have been involved with the Meth.
I have an appointment with the mayor next week in hopes of proposing that the city of Licking procure a drug dog.
