I would like to hear from anyone who has used this program, especially anyone who has kept notes comparing litters conditioned with it vs. not. If you are not familiar with it, here's a link: http://www.guncreeklabradors.com/ENS/ENS.htm
It is on many other websites.
I've used it on one litter and they seem particulary advanced but would like to hear from others. Thanks!
One won't see a difference right off, or in any significant degree regarding immunity, et al. Nonetheless, there is a very important imprinting function to all that handling and positional acceptance...and the effects of that are quite notable...and positive. In other words...follow the program (in my opinion).
Whether or not appropriate applied stress enhances the immune system, is a well-known issue: IT ENHANCES IMMUNITY. Too much stress suppresses the immune system...that is also well-known.
Early stimulation enhances the formation of active synapses (connections between brain cells). This result can ONLY be obtained early on...not as an adult. This is a fact as well.
A dog's synapses are about complete at about 7 weeks...I gather.
We tried it between two different litters. I haven't seen much difference, and any differences we have seen could be contributed to the bloodlines/parents as they're from different backgrounds (WGR Working vs East German/Czech). We might try it again with our next litter, then the "data" will be a little more plausible for comparison as the comparison litters will be out of the same dam.
Thanks for the input. I've been reading Lindsay's Vol.1- Handbook of Applied Dog Behavior & Training and around pg.37 he refers to a lot of the experiments done with rats. He also says, "Early neonatal handling involving as little as 3 minutes a day and exposure to various mild environmental stressors...'may' (emphasis mine) have positive impacts..." "Animals left undisturbed during neonatal development were found to be emotionally more reactive as adults." He acknowledges that there have been no published studies concerning these experiments. If similar handling measures have proven to be vastly effective with rats, I would like to see more canine studies. I think that the early handling is probably more important than the exact postures the pups is held in.
