I can't resist posting this link...especially since many sch competitors look down on teaching a working dog "tricks"...
Check out the titles on this dog (IPO3, SVV3) and then go directly to Video clip #5.
I check their site about once a week to see what they've got available. Brugia used to be listed for sale, however within a week or two they took her off the for sale board and she moved to "our dogs." I guess she was so good that they had to buy her for themselves!

I guess this is a typical 'newbie' question, but why are they screeching and yelling the commands at the dogs? I know that during a competition the judge needs to hear the command, but my gosh, does everyone else in the nation?

To be heard above the artillery and gunfire. Just a guess on my part. Or to convey a sense of urgency to the dog. When I say "Platz" to Max in a normal tone of voice, he downs at his own leasure. But when I say Platz so loud you can here it on a flight deck, it's Instantaneous. Again I'm guessing

HAHA! Sounds like my dad and I when I was young.
I agree with that. I think on one of thoughs videos where they dog was doing some bite work, that was the decoy trying to "command" the dog to stop, maybe testing to the dog out to see if he would respond. I could be wrong though. I think some times raising your voice helps raise the intencity and in some cases may even pump the dog up a little.

18 for which dog, Jeff?
About the yelling, I guess I would just rather be able to say a command in whatever tone of voice I wanted to and have the dog obey with the same amount of urgency. I can understand yelling if you are far away or having to be heard over artillery or other loud noises, but I don't want to just have to yell at my dog to make him listen. They can hear you whisper just as well as when you holler, and by God when I say a command, I want the dog to obey! The price of being a perfectionist I guess.
I did enjoy watching the videos though!
