I have a retrieve crazy dog and he has a problem giving up the toy upon retrieving. I have tried the 2-toy method i.e. when he comes back with the first toy, I throw the second one. What happens is he won't let go of the first toy and when I throw the second one, he runs to it with toy number one in his mouth. If he *wants* the second toy I've thrown, he'll drop the first one (if he can't fit both in his mouth) and grab it. Otherwise, he just keeps the first one and brings it back to me. I have an awful time getting him to let go of the toy when he brings it back. He also is chewy on the toy. Stands or sits there chomping away and slobbering all over it. About half the time, he'll actually give it to me when I tell him to, but that's it. Arghhh...can anyone give me some more things to try?
Go to the list of training articles and the Q&A section on the main web site. Read what I have written there. I beleive I wrote in detail on this in the Q&A on police service dogs.
