Kennel Cough in itself is a self limiting disease (last about two weeks). The vet can give you antibiotics to combat a secondary infection or if the infection is persistent, but it's not use to treat tracheobronchitis typically. If you are unsure if it is kennel cough or not I would take your dog to the vet. Other disease process may cause a cough. Kennel cough is Very contagious.
One of my dogs had kennel cough last year. I basically spent $20 on three ounces of Robittusin at the vet and a lot more on antibiotics. I ended up spending almost $300. It is self limiting without medical intervention if your dog is generally healthy.
I have two other dogs. One of them caught it from the third dog. That dog I treated with Robitussin to make her more comfortable. She recovered in about two weeks without antibiotics.
