I just got through purchasing my first Doberman. I have been in the Rottie world for some time but just got through buying a Doberman. What books videos etc. would you guys recomend to learn more about the breed. I want to be informed and be a good owner. I live in Peru South America, am going back to the states to pick up the dog and would like to have a good collection of books to bring back with me to Peru when I return. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Books are always written by breeders. They'll tell you how wonderful their lines are. Never the genetic problems they carry. I have a wide collection of books on Dobermanns. Hopefully this winter won't be too cold and I won't need them, but I'll use them rather than firewood.
If you have been involved with Rottweilers, you know 99% of what you need to know about Dobermanns. The only difference is a higher prey drive, sometimes very high, like a Malinois, and in 90% of the lines very thin nerves. A real problem if you have to live with the dog.
Visit http://www.dobermann.com and you'll find a lot of information and links. Also there's a forum at http://www.usadobermann.com.
I have owned Dobermanns and now work German Shepperds. My opinion is a good dog is a good dog no matter what breed, but I only met a handful of good Dobermanns. 99% of the breeders don't use these dogs. They are not goodlooking enough. No book is going to tell you that.
If you want a working dog, do a lot of research before you buy. Don't believe anything breeders tell you, only the achievements of their dogs in competition. If they don't have at least SchHIII for several generations, forget it.
Hope I helped.
