Please excuse the question from a rookie, but my wife just informed me that she had some uncooked pork chops that she is uncomfortable preparing for the family. She thinks that they are still "good" but does not want to risk it. She bought the pork chops this past Sunday and they have remained in the refrigerator until tonight. My question is, am I safe feeding the raw pork to my 2yr. old Golden Ret. and my 7mos old GSD. They are both fed Canidae kibble and have never had a raw diet. Just hate to waste the food if it is OK for the dogs, but if there is any risk to their health or safety I will not risk it. Thanks for any and all input.

I'd eat those chops RIGHT now. Mmmmmmmmmmmm. I highly doubt that I would get sick from them so I doubt the dogs would. My only concern would be since the don't eat this normally, that you don't give them too much.
I would join you in eating them, they are big and thick and quite nice and pink, but my wife does not play when it comes to her babies. So it looks like the dogs will get them spread out over a couple of days mixed in with their kibble. Thanks for the input.

You should not feed raw meat & kibble in the same meal. Cooked meat & kibble is ok together. They digest at different rates of speed in the GI track. Raw meat takes about 6 hours to digest & kibble is more like 14- 16 hours. Feed seperately.
Thanks I just got that post in time. I gave each dog one big chop each and when they finished I put kibble into their bowls, they had not gotten to it yet so I have pulled it. I was going to feed them each one pork chop each until all are gone, then I will switch back to the kibble. I guess I need to give them some time to digest before providing kibble after the last chop is gone. Thanks for the info.

Go slowly with the meat... if their GI system is not used to raw meat..like any new food... introduce it slowly over time. Usually 5 -7- 10 days. To feed it too much too soon...can cause digestive upsets. Their system needs to become accustomed to the new food & have time to adjust to it.
