i have a 6 month old gsd and i am not doing any bitework with him. what i want to be able to do is to take him out in the field and play fetch but also do a lot of obedience during fetch;just your basic heeling, down, sit, stand, and stay. will this video help me or do i need Ed's basic obedience. if i train him like this will his obedience carry over to off the feild? if i try to do this off the field and have to correct him for not doing it, will it hurt is drive? i want to keep play time as fun for me and him as i can, but also want reliability on and off the field.
If your dog prefers food/treats, get the Basic Obedience DVD set. If your dog prefers toys, get the Drive building, Grip and Focus DVD. They are both excellent.
Yes, I agree with Ann, we have a 6 1/2 months old GS as well, and both DVDs. The obedience one was really good, helped us refined commands we'd been practicing since he was much younger, has a lot of good info. The drive one is much more intense, and takes much more work. I'd say if your dog is a food hound like ours, then go with the obedience one. We're got the drive one as we want to train our gs for competition later.
