As a matter of interest, how long does it take on average from ordering a dog/pup from abroad to receiving it from start to finish.
Of course with a pup, it has to be bred, whelped and weaned and 8 or 9 weeks old (varies by country) before it can be shipped
After that, the dog arrives just as fast as a domestic dog. It is sent via plane and at the airport the same day or next day if it has a connection and has to get day boarded, etc.
But again it depends on where you are, and if there are any limitations in this part of the country on getting a pup/dog.
I was considering getting a pup from Belgium and as I live in the Uk there would be no problem ...pet passport and all that ...but I have been told this can all take up to eight months. I really wanted a blank canvas....
Tom, I think you 'll have to ask your own authorities about the regulations for this. In the past a pet had to be quarantained for 6 months when you wanted to import it in the UK. This isn't necessary anymore but I believe it is still difficult. A dog needed vaccinations, a health certificate and a blood test. This blood test was the problem for very few laboratories were authorized to do this test. The test had to be done several months before the import. We thought all these things made it too difficult to go on a holiday to the UK. If the regulations are still the same I'm afraid it's almost impossible to get your pup.
Your question should be How Long Does it Take From Starte to Finshed TO GET SCREWED? !!!!!
Let this be a warning to the people on this board. The odds of getting a good dog from over seas is NIL TO NOT !!!! Its not going to happen. European breeders send the shit end of their litters to forgiegn customers. They do not back their dogs if there are problems. The last person in the world they care about is YOU !!!!
If you want to buy a dog buy it in the states from a reputable breeder. There are pleanty around - I wrote this at a time that I do not have dogs for sale and at a time when I am scaling back my breeding program (for time reasons)
Anyone who is seriously thinking of buysing a dog from over seas has a 98% chance of gettin screwed. Remember this thread 2 years after you get your dog.
If you're in the UK couldn't jump in your car and take a look at the breeders on the continant? Looks like your only a day away from Bel or Germany? Maybe faster by train?

I found your site shortly after I imported a 2 ½ year old female and I have bought 3 of your DVD’s. I respect your opinion and would like to hear more on how I might have been screwed. She has been here 6-7 weeks and is doing great. She is Schh3, KKL1, Hips A.
The vet gave her a clean bill of heath… what possibly could go wrong at this point. You obviously have an insight to the industry that I do not so your feedback is appreciated.

You still won't get a pup under 10 months of age. It has to be vaccinated at 3 months and then go through an incubation period of six months before it will be allowed to be imported in the UK. The Pet travel scheme is just that, not importing an animal. Check out the defra website or talk to your agricultural authorities.
There are many breeders in the UK now that have brought in Belgium dogs and are breeding them, this may be a better option if you want a pup.
